30 Years Of Ocean Basket: The Greatest Hits Are Back

Posted on July 4, 2025

By: Alexis Tshangana

Celebrate 30 years of Ocean Basket with a greatest hits menu this July. Enjoy iconic fan favourites, seafood platters, and special birthday prices.

Ocean Basket, South Africa’s original seafood sweetheart, is throwing a month-long celebration to mark a delicious milestone. This July, the beloved brand turns 30 and they’re bringing back some of the greatest hits that made them famous.

From Mama Liza’s Table to Yours

From humble beginnings in a tiny Pretoria storefront in 1995 to over 200 restaurants in 16 countries, Ocean Basket has grown into a household name with generosity at its heart. It’s a Mediterranean value that has shaped not just the menu, but the spirit of every Ocean Basket around the world.

Founded by brothers Fats and George Lazarides and inspired by their mother, Mama Liza, Ocean Basket was built on the idea that good food is best when shared. What started as an ambitious dream quickly became a national obsession.

Now, it’s time to celebrate 30 years of flavour, family, and fan favourites with a birthday bash that brings back the dishes South Africa fell in love with.

A Seafood Blast from the Past

All July, Ocean Basket fans can tuck into a special “greatest hits” birthday menu with a curated line-up of platters and prices that nod to three decades of deliciousness.

Featuring the High Tide Platter (R99 including a soda), Reel Love Platter (R145), Perfect Catch Platter (R299), and the Spicy Prawns (R145), this menu is a celebration of the brand’s most craveable creations. Add in seafood burgers for just R75 and you’ve got yourself a feast—with more surprises to be revealed during the month.

30 Years On and Still Making Waves

Thirty years on, Ocean Basket remains a place where every guest is welcomed like family, where quality is never compromised, and where value still rules the menu. With a footprint that now stretches from Sandton to Saudi Arabia, the brand continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.
