Samantha Singh, Founder and Director of Fluid Intellect, established the company during the COVID-19 lockdown. Prior to this, she worked at Motus Financial Services until an interim retrenchment during the pandemic. With the extra time on her hands, Samantha began reflecting on the state of the country and decided she wanted to build a tech company that was proudly South African.

She had spent much of her career working with international tech companies and wanted to change that. This led her to create Fluid Intellect, a tech company with a mission to drive local innovation.Samantha’s background in IT and structural engineering has always been her passion. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, exercising, and sewing.

Her tech journey started in high school when her father encouraged her to study computer science. Despite facing challenges such as poor teaching and having to handwrite code for exams, Samantha persevered. Her father later pushed her toward a career in Information Technology, and after completing a one-year course to test the waters, she earned the highest achievement in programming. “That’s when I knew this was it,” she says.

Financial services, one of the biggest sectors for tech companies, is where Samantha developed her expertise. She explains that technology plays a critical role in this industry, especially with the massive data and security needs. As AI grows, data is the driving force behind it. Banks, for example, are increasingly using digital products like virtual cards which highlights major digital transformation.

During the mass migration of skilled workers abroad, Samantha noticed the unemployment rate in South Africa and saw a gap. “If everyone is leaving, who will help the next generation thrive in this industry?” she asked herself. This realisation motivated her to fill the gap by using local talent to build tech companies for South Africa.

Fluid Intellect is a proudly South African tech company with a fresh approach. The company focuses on building AI technologies, including its flagship product Satori. Satori, along with upcoming products, is designed to empower South African youth in the tech industry. “We are a young, vibrant tech company filled with colourful thinkers,” says Samantha, who draws inspiration from Google’s relaxed and innovative culture.

Samantha’s career has evolved over the years, eventually focusing on data, data architecture, and data engineering. She recognised that many institutions were sitting on valuable data they couldn’t fully use. This led to the creation of Satori which is a tool that democratizes data, allowing anyone in an organisation to interact with it and gain insights through natural language. Unlike static analytics tools, Satori connects directly to the organisation’s data, making it flexible and accessible.

Satori’s goal is to empower everyone in an organisation, especially non-technical teams, to access data easily. “It takes away the grunt work for non-technical users and helps them get information faster,” Samantha explains. This tool fosters innovation and creativity, enabling teams to ask questions about sales figures or other data without waiting for reports from others.

Samantha Singh is breaking barriers in the tech industry and she encourages women to lead and claim their space. “Just go for it,” she advises. “Study, claim it, and own it.” Her legacy aims to inspire South Africans to use their skills to uplift others and build the nation.
