Africa’s first Glamping Expo will be taking place from 20-21 June 2025 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.The Glamping experience was founded by Gugu Sithole, a tourism entrepreneur and the visionary behind Glamping Adventures, which was established in 2019. This proudly South African company offers mobile glamping experiences across the country.

The idea for the Glamping Expo was born out of a need for a cohesive platform that could bring together everyone within the glamping value chain under one roof to shape the future of this niche tourism sub-sector. “We decided, why don’t we create a stage for the entire glamping industry, as well as travellers, to connect? We are talking architects, landowners, manufacturers of unique structures, SMEs, retail and travel agents,” emphasises Gugu.
The Glamping Expo is designed to be a catalyst for connection, innovation, and growth within the sustainable tourism space. Through this event, Gugu aims to showcase the potential of glamping as a mainstream, sustainable tourism option that blends luxury and comfort with the natural environment.
According to Gugu, glamping offers more accessible entry points for community participation in tourism, where locals can be involved as hosts, guides, cooks, artisans, or by running supporting businesses. “As a model rooted in sustainability, glamping aligns with Africa’s push for green innovation and climate-resilient tourism. It allows us to preserve our natural assets while creating new economic opportunities,” she adds.
The Glamping Expo promises to be a dynamic and immersive experience that places a spotlight on the luxury outdoor travel space.
