After a long day at school or a long day at work, watching a show on Netflix is always the best way to destress. South African actors have taken us on a journey of laughter, pain and joy with their exhilarating movies and series. The film industry is definitely the gift that keeps on giving.

Netflix is everyone’s go-to entertainment platform because you get to watch movies and series from all parts of the world in the comfort of your home. Although we love the different parts of the world, we need to come back home and give credit to South African actors who have given us numerous movies and series that not only entertain us but speak about real-life experiences of South Africans. Let’s take a look at some of the movies and series that Netflix South Africa has to offer.
Blood & Water
The fourth season of Blood & Water was released this year and it had fans glued to their screens. In this season, we follow Puleng who is played by Ama Qamata and the rest of the Parkhurst High students as they try to move on from the trauma around the baby kidnapping ring. The students all hope to have a fresh start but an anonymous texter comes into the picture and everything takes a turn for the worst. Both Puleng and Fiks who is played by Khosi Ngema are targeted for their past mistakes. In this season we get to see all the trauma that the students went through but we also get to see all the drama and new characters that come with it.

Losing Lerato 2
Losing Lerato 2 is an Action drama film which is a sequel to the 2019 drama film titled Losing Lerato. The film is a continuation of story of a father who is desperately trying to reconnect with his daughter who he could not be with because of financial issues. This story takes you through a whirlwind of emotions as it tackles many societal challenges that South Africans face. The bond between a father and a daughter which shows that unconditional love can get you through anything is depicted in the film. Losing Lerato 2 is directed by Zolani Phakade and the film is written and co-produced by Kagiso Modupe who is also the lead character in the film.
The Ultimatum: South Africa
The Ultimatum: South Africa is the South African version of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move on. In this spin-off we get to see six couples go on a journey that tests their love and trust in one another. This reality show is hosted by a well-known power couple, Salamina and Howza Mosese which is only fitting. This experiment kept South Africans glued to their television screens as well as their phone screens. The couples each have their own drama and challenges throughout this experiment. This reality show explicitly displays the hot tea of relationships.
Lobola Man
Thabang Moleya’s romantic comedy, titled Lobola Man takes us through a very cultural South African experience. In this film we follow Ace Ngubeni played by Lawrence Maleka who is a lobola man by profession. He is hired by grooms to help negotiate the bride price. This film embraces this cultural practice in a very beautiful and entertaining manner. Ace is faced with many challenges when it comes to love and this is a result of his irresponsible and absent father. The show is centered around the marriage of Duke who is played by Vincent Mahlangu and Zandile who is played by Kwanele Mthethwa. This film tells an authentic story that keeps you laughing until you cannot breathe.
